The Marshmallow and the Hot Chocolate

The Marshmallow and the Hot Chocolate

April 3, 2018 Poetry 1

And he couldn’t help
But fall for her
Though he knew
What horror would occur

He was bright and fluffy
Before it all happened
Sweet as sugar
The best marshmallow
Around

He tanned with friends
sometimes getting a little burned
Cuddled with chocolate
And was just enjoyed
in general

But she
oh she was different
dark, a recognizable scent
everyone wants her
but no one dares touch her

For she was made hot
piping, bound to destroy
stay clear of the hot chocolate
and she stayed in her glass cage

And he couldn’t help
But fall for her
Though he knew
What horror would occur

He succumbed
to her fiery exterior
but he could never
touch her

And slowly, and slowly
she was dying
her heart was getting colder
her smell fading away

Marshmallow stiffened
in pain, in concern, in bravery
he needed to be with her
not matter the consequences

And he couldn’t help
But fall for her
Though he knew
What horror would occur

So he climbed
and climbed
over top her stiff cage
until he saw her

and he almost fainted
bless him
for her warm brown
was beautiful

not like a cupcake
with big bright colors
or even like solid chocolate
no she wasn’t shiny

like a rich earth
like the smooth voice of the violin
like the spine-chilling mane of a lion
like the stubborn scent of cinnamon

he smiled, and listened to her pleas
she begged him not to fall into her
don’t fall for her
but one look at her beauty and he knew
what he had to do

And he couldn’t help
But fall for her
Though he knew
What horror would occur

she cried and cried
as she felt him melt away
and his strength
and his sweetness
and his soul
spread throughout her
to every part of her body

she hated him for being selfless
she loved him for helping her
she hated him for taking away her one happiness
she loved him for giving her love for herself

she was nicer after that
and she tried to make friends
but she never forgot the
marshmallow

who

couldn’t help
But fall for her
Though he knew
What horror would occur

and that was the woeful story
of the marshmallow and the hot chocolate
